Detailed description of Marriotts Desert Springs Resort, Valley Course

Marriotts Desert Springs Resort is a Resort 54 hole golf facility located in Palm Desert, California. The facility has two regulation 18-hole courses and a very unique 18 hole, par-54 putting course. The 18-hole courses are The Valley Course and The Palm Course. The putting course is The Greens at Desert Springs Putting Course.

Marriotts Desert Springs Resort Valley Course first opened for play in 1987. The course was designed by Ted Robinson. Both the Valley and Palms courses were designed by acclaimed architect Ted Robinson, "King of Waterscapes."

The Valley Course, like The Palm Course is lined with mature palms, pines and indigenous trees, and features an extremely undulating terrain with frequent elevation changes from tee to green. The green complexes are often raised, with bunkers, grass depressions and slopes protecting putting surfaces that are sloped from back to front or ridged with swales and tiers. Also similar are the short par fours with water hazards that create great risk/reward opportunities.

Par for the Valley Course at Marriotts Desert Springs Resort is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,679 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,330 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 9, a par-5 that plays to 543 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 12, a par-3 that plays to 169 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 4, a 417 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at the Valley Course at Marriotts Desert Springs Resort is # 12, the 169 yard par-3.

What a great course. It was in fantastic shape and was very playable. The only issue I had was that the greens were slower than I'm used to but that seems to be a common occurrence on golf courses in the Palm Desert area. I will certainly play it again the next time I visit the area.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level

Nice course with some good challenges. The only drawback is that there are not many facilities on the Valley Course.

Good golf course in pretty good shape. Over booked by the pro shop. No marshalls so we had a 5 hour round. Waited every shot!

Irregularly grass cutting on the greens makes them a 2-putt, unless that first one gets really lucky. In season, these greens can roll relatively fast and true but with the Palms course under remodel, there are any number of courses nearby that are in better condition at the same or lower price.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Worse than average course for the area
